To commemorate 50 years of friendly ties and cross-border exchanges between Singapore and Malaysia, Titian Budaya SG will be hosting “Next Door @ Publika”. Celebrating our shared history, similarities and cultural diversities, Next Door showcases the creative collaborations and talents of both countries.
Head over to Publika on 22 and 23 November to be a part of this event, where attendees can expect a weekend of art, music and more. The event is divided into four main categories, namely Art Next Door, Bazaar Next Door, Music Live Next Door, and Cinema Next Door.
Held in White Box from 21 November to 13 December, this will be a contemporary exhibition showcasing works from visual artists of both countries that are born after 1965. Among them are Amir Mohamed and Liza Manshoor, Charles Lim, Fong Qi Wei and Yee I-Lann. Don’t miss out on the special light installation by Vertical Submarine portraying a satirical look on the restricted behaviour and culture of Singaporeans.
This segment is jointly organised by Art for Grabs and Singapore Makers Association. There will be over 70 stalls featuring everything from making your own microbots by Imagin8ors to traditional beading from Borneo. Besides knick knacks, handicraft items and DIY stalls, there will also be a forum by Projek Dialog on sexual harassment, a poetry open mic, workshops and a Cilisos gameshow.
Putting the spotlight on Singapore’s filmmaking scene, there will be a series of films screened in Black Box. Highlights include Utter 2015: Head Trips which are animated shorts based on Singaporean literature and an audio-film concert titled LAND with NO SUN by TO Ensemble where the music is performed live.
One for the music lovers, gather under the stars at The Square for a rousing mix of performances. Breathing contemporary twists of electronica, jazz and modern techniques into Asian harmonics, watch out for Kailin Yong’s PLUS Trio, Rustic Vibes, SA (仨) and Gentarasa. Topping it off will be a reunion performance by Malaysian favourite Liyana Fizi and her band as she pairs together with Singaporean singer- songwriter Charlie Lim.
