100cm x 100cm pieces of coloured bubble wrap take centre stage at chi too’s fourth solo exhibition, Like Someone In Love. Held at Lostgen’s Contemporary Art Space in Kuala Lumpur, the exhibition runs from 21 March to 5 April.
chi too is known as a multi-disciplinary artist who often delves into socio-political commentary and activism. In this current body of works, he explores colour theory by producing a series of bubble wrap sheets which have been meticulously and persistently injected with acrylic paint using a syringe.
The artworks challenge the traditional notion of painting and the series took two years to complete. However, the temptation to burst the bubble wrap may be too much for some visitors: two of the paintings were recently damaged, in a case of quite literal pop art.
There will be a sharing session with the artist on 4 April, 4pm, at Lostgens’ moderated by Mark Teh. The gallery is opened from Tuesday to Sunday, 11am – 6pm, from 21 March – 5 April.
