The annual Aiyoh…Wat Lah?! awards are back, and as usual, the winners are voted for by the public. Organised by the Joint Action Group For Gender Equality, the awards are given to the most outrageous sexist, homophobic, transphobic and misogynistic statements and actions from the past year.

Along with the predictable political contenders, this year’s nominees also include Loyar Burok (for the publication of that fellatio opinion article) and The Star Online (which ran an election article focusing on female politicians’ grooming). There are various categories, which include “Foot in Mouth”, “Policy Fail” and “Cannot Ignore”. But, if you’re looking for a ray of hope, there’s also a “Right on Track” category for actions that have supported gender equality, such as the un-banning of a book published by Sisters in Islam.

“Foot in Mouth”, “Insulting Intelligence”, “Policy Fail”, “Cannot Ignore”, “Least Helpful to the Sisterhood”, “Enough Already!”, and “Right on Track”. – See more at: http://www.loyarburok.com/2014/05/12/vote-aiyoh-wat-lah-awards/#sthash.xC9r4Mth.dpuf
