If you’re looking for insightful and productive weekends, look no further – as KL’s independent bookstore Silverfish Books is bringing its talk series with a festival name that is sure to turn heads and grab attention.

The festival is an extension of the publisher’s continuous effort in supporting Malaysia’s independent cultural scene. According to Silverfish Books owner Raman Krishnan, it intends to provide a platform for honest and intellectual discussions about anything and everything.

Writers who will be speaking at the festival include Isa Kamari, Rumaizah Abu Bakar, Heidi Shamsuddin and Dina Zaman, just to name a few. Other speakers include academic Farish Noor, actor Mano Maniam and lawyer Azmi Sharom.

The festival kicks off this Sunday 2 August with talks and discussions on the history of Malaysian music by Saidah Rastam, a prolific musician. She will also be sharing her research on her book, Rosalie and Other Love Songs, which is a part of a preservation project on Malayan music. Check out the event page here.

The Festival of Cabbages will be held every Saturday and Sunday throughout August and September from 5 pm – 7 pm at Silverfish Books, 20-2F, Bangsar Village 2, Bangsar Baru, 59100, Kuala Lumpur.

Admission is free but you are required to RSVP your attendance to [email protected]. For more information and full event listing, visit Silverfish Books’ Facebook page here.
