What is it?A shop that specializes in one thing only: pies. Savoury or sweet, these pies are inspired by classic flavours such as Chunky Steak, Chicken N’ Shroom and Apple Crumble. They are baked fresh daily and hand-moulded individually.Shunning the conventional puff pastry which most bakeries or shops use to bake their pies in, A Pie Thing uses shortcrust pastry instead, giving it a less oily and cloying aftertaste to the pies. They are expected to expand their range of flavours gradually with special ones for festive seasons.Savoury and sweet pies from A Pie Thing. Photo: Lyn Ong.

 Who is it?

Alex Yeo, Irene Ho and Chrisanne Oh. Adopting a humorous but practical approach to manage their new venture effectively, they designated themselves as Pie Seller, Pie Maker and Pie Baker respectively.

The three friends took a leap of faith by quitting their previous jobs and decided to open a specialty pie café inspired by the pies they had in Australia. “We have a philosophy. Cause we’re still young, so it’s like now or never,” says Alex.

A Pie Thing

Go for…

The Chunky Steak. Cubes of beef are cooked in a savoury broth tinged with herbs and spices, the fillings are then baked into a shortcrust pastry. The pie is moist and moreish with the crust maintaining its crispness throughout.

There are also lamb, chicken and vegetarian options as well for those who do not eat beef.
