What is it?
We’ve been exposed to sweet pancakes, or crepes, for a while now. But what about crepes rolled up with a savoury filling and eaten as a main meal? Le French Wrap is serving up this daily French staple to the Malaysian palate, with a kiosk café in two locations: Publika and Gardens.
The crepes are made fresh daily from buckwheat flour, with almost all the ingredients used for their crepes imported from France. There are also baguettes as an added option for those who prefer bread over crepes. Oh, and there are sweet fillings, as well as savoury.
Who is it?
Thierry Daclin (who is a Lyon native) and his wife, Charlotte Cousins. Being involved in the food industry for the most part of his career, Thierry was providing marketing programmes for the F&B industry here in Malaysia.
Seeing that good, quality French food was difficult to find here, Le French Wrap came to be. “We wanted something that is affordable, tasty. Something real, authentic and we thought we could bring this to the Malaysian market,” said Thierry. They opened up their first kiosk in Publika in August 2013, with plans to eventually have a full-fledged restaurant serving a wider array of French cuisine.
La Riviera. It’s a harmonious mixture of chicken sausage, sautéed mushrooms, roasted capsicums, lettuce and wasabi mayonnaise. The chicken sausages here are meaty and juicy, unlike the rubbery texture that we find served all too often.
For those with a sweet tooth, go for the Valentine. Romantically named, it has Valhorna dark chocolate, cream and Hawaiian coconut.
A side of steamed spinach or potato salad.
The wraps are priced between RM8 – RM19 for savoury and RM6 – RM12 for sweet.
