A contemporary café that serves up classic Malaysian food, ranging from popiah to nasi lemak and Hainanese chicken, with a few fusion dishes (spaghetti with serai, anyone?) thrown in for fun. Bright and tasteful touches of Nyonya decor and a well-priced menu make it an appealing lunch option for the Damansara Jaya crowd.
Who is it?
Chuup is owned and run by Karen Wong and Chic Wern Ng, newbies in the food industry. The name of the restaurant is derived from Karen’s grandmother’s inability to pronounce “chop” properly. She pronounces it as “Chuup”. The café is sort of an homage to her and her recipes.
The pork and chicken chops will satisfy any carnivore. While delicious both pan fried and deep fried, we liked the pan fried chicken for its subtly sweet glaze and the comforting gravy with softened potato and carrot. The chicken chop is complimented by an unusual but winning side of chopped spinach mixed with egg.
