MalaysiaKu is a community event that has been organised since 2010 by the Bangkung Row restaurants to celebrate Malaysia Day. This year, instead of the usual street bazaar on Jalan Bangkung, there will be a series of activities in various locations around Bangsar. From 12 – 16 September, immerse yourself in culture, festivities and food!

On 12 September, hear Malaysian-American economist Professor Dato’ Woo Wing Thye give a talk on the Malaysian Economy and Ringgit (3pm – 5pm, Bookmark at APW).

On 13 September, notable musician, composer and researcher Saidah Rastam will talk about the search for our national anthem, Negaraku (3pm – 5pm, Bookmark at APW).

On 16 September, join representatives from Badan Warisan, ThinkCity, The Chowrasta Market Project and our very own BetterCities for a talk on urban communities (4pm – 6pm, Bookmark at APW).

Performances and Food

PUSAKA will organise wayang kulit workshop and performance which will be held on Tuesday 15 September at Pantai Dalam.

On 16 September, from 5pm – 10pm, head to APW for the Malaysiaku Rice Festival. The Rice Festival will be hosting stalls selling different rice dishes that celebrate our diverse food heritage – all for the love of rice. Among many other performances, look out for a Baba Nyonya wedding enactment to symbolise the marriage of the Federation of Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore on the 16 September 1963.

Bangsar Village will also host a variety of family activities and dance performances throughout the day, as well as a photo exhibition of the winning entries from its Satu Hati Sejuta Wajah.

MalaysiaKu Celebrations will be held at APW, Bangsar, Bangsar Village 1 and other locations. For more details, check out their Facebook page here.
