The Krishen Jit ASTRO Fund, created by ASTRO and Five Arts Centre to encourage creative work in Malaysia, is now open for applications.

Krishen Jit was a theatre pioneer who celebrated Malaysian creativity in various ways and in all areas and aspects of the arts. He produced multicultural, interdisciplinary and experimental projects throughout his works in theatre and co-founded Five Arts Centre in 1984.

In the spirit of Krishen Jit’s memory, the Krishen Jit ASTRO Fund provides grants ranging from RM2,000 and RM20,000. These will be given out for training, workshops, attachment and residencies, experimental productions, research, writing and even creating new work in film, music, theatre, visual or performance art.

The selection panels who will be granting the funds are Dato’ Norliza Rofli, Director of the Department of Culture and Arts, Ministry of Tourism and Culture; Jolyn Gasper, Senior AVP Corporate Responsibility of ASTRO; Leow Puay Tin, Head of Department of Performance & Media, Sunway University; as well as Ravi Navaratnam and Mac Chan from Five Arts Centre.
