Browse books, films, arts, crafts and ideas alike at the 8th annual KL Alternative Bookfest this weekend. Held in collaboration with the weekend market Art For Grabs, KLAB takes place at Dataran Underground on 21 – 22 March from 12pm to 8pm.
Expect a melting pot of fresh book releases, discussions and a slew of artisanal goods at over 70 booths from different local businesses including Buku Fixi and Moka Mocha Ink.
Saturday’s highlights include exclusive book launches from writers Faisal Tehrani, Anuar Shah, and Bissme S. On Sunday, look out for a monumental doodle battle at 12pm and a showcase of underground short films which will be on loop all day.
KLAB also includes talks that are sure to get the audience fired up with debate: on Saturday, 6.30pm, there will be a discussion on the local film industry with Director-General of FINAS Datuk Kamil Othman, Red Communications founder Lina Tan, as well as James Lee, Woo Ming Jin and Rewan Ishak.
On Sunday at 3pm, join Syahredzan Johan, Michelle Yesudas, Emmanuel Joseph, Nadira Ilana, Shafiqah Othman and Uthaya Sankar SB for a Projek Dialog panel about the effect of English and Bahasa Melayu in aspects of class, culture and human rights.
