On Friday 20 March, FreedomFilmFest presents a screening of the anticipated film The Look of Silence. The film, which is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed documentary The Act of Killing directed by Joshua Oppenheimer, will be screened in Malaysia for the first time at 8pm at PJ Live Arts.

The Look of Silence is a companion film to The Act of Killing, which investigated the perpetrators of the 1966-1965 anti-communist genocide in Indonesia. The latest film, however, focuses on the families of the victims and how the injustices of the past still continue to haunt their present day lives.

FreedomFilmFest was established in 2003 by local human rights NGO KOMAS with the mantra “Dare to Document”, with a mission to present films that explore social justice. Watch this space for the dates of this year’s festival.

Register for the film screening 30 minutes before screening; entry is by minimum donation of RM10. The film screening will be followed by a Skype interview with the film’s protagonist and one of the Indonesian filmmakers.
