When we imagine the future, it’s easy to think of spaceships, moon colonies and martians. But what about closer to home? In Futura, a collaborative project by Poskod.my, Fixi Novo and #Word: The Cooler Lumpur Festival, we present six short stories that imagine Kuala Lumpur 50 years from now.
Six writers and six illustrators present their visions of the year 2063, ranging from the dystopian to the funny, the surreal to the poignant. The stories will be released online each week leading up to the launch of The Cooler Lumpur Festival, which takes place 21 – 23 June at MAP, Publika.
Futura first launched in 2011 with six stories in BM. Reprising in 2013 with six stories in English, the collection includes writing by Angeline Woon, Shivani Sivagurunathan, Dayang Noor, EeLeen Lee, Fadzlishah Johanabas and Amir Hafizi. There are original illustrations by Yi-Piao Yeoh, Shahril Nizam, Xeem Noor, Kazimir Lee Iskander, Andrew T. Crum and Ng Siow Foon.
Is our future bright? Beautiful? Bureaucratic? Bent on destroying us? Find out with Futura. You can read the short stories released so far here: http://futura.poskod.my.
