Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2015 took place at Pavilion KL just last week. Over 80 designers and labels showcased their talent and work, from established names to newbies. Several debut designers caught our eye – here are four Malaysian first-timers at KLFW 2015 whom we’ll be watching.

A new label in which the designer insists on remaining anonymous, HIDE is a mysterious brand that’s got the local fashion scene buzzing. Working as a fashion photographer, the designer’s eye for textures, silhouettes and interesting styling techniques comes with ease from years of experience behind the lens.

HIDE clothes struck us as wearable minimalism with a touch of edge. Debuting its first showcase in Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2015, HIDE has created a womenswear line inspired by monks, Japanese art and calligraphy and has executed it in prominent and bold contrasting colours – red against black, as well as contrasting fabrication weights and textures.

“A HIDE woman is always about dressing up or dressing down in the most comfortable and style-conscious manner,” says the designer.

Evelyn Chia

A fashion design graduate from Raffles College, Evelyn Chia sources inspiration from nature and adapts vast ideas into her extremely wearable and durable collections. “I’m mostly inspired by nature as it comes in different shapes and forms,” explains Evelyn, a humble and soft spoken individual whose ambition and character reflects in her designs.

She produced her most recent collection as a finalist for the New Generation Fashion Designer Awards, “Pilgrim Age”, and was inspired by the Grand Canyon’s beauty and history. Expect structured clothing that plays with shape as both part of the cut and the print of the fabrics.

C.A.S.H by Alwyn C

Alwyn C is a young Malaysian fashion graduate from Raffles College of Higher Education and SML Fashion Academy who has slowly but surely pushed his way into the fashion industry.

As an ambitious spirit, Alwyn began to sell his samples while still in college to local fashion companies as well as custom-made orders for certain clients – he didn’t stop there. Alwyn then moved on to expose his talent across Malaysia by competing in various fashion contests such as Project Runway Malaysia and the New Generation Fashion Designer Award.

Alwyn C produces collections to suit his image and personal style which includes structured pieces with interesting detailing such as laser cut fabrics and repetitive prints.
