Chili pan mee is a dish that KL-ites can proudly call their own. It was invented in this city when one man, Tan Kok Hong, decided to start serving his pork mince pan mee with a fragrant blend of chili flakes and a poached egg on top. Combined with nuggets of pork fat and salty ikan bilis, it was a combination that got KL hooked.
Other shops started selling chili pan mee, but the original Kin Kin pan mee has always retained its popularity and reputation. Now, Kin Kin has expanded to new outlets, and has even opened a branch in Singapore. Yet Mr Tan still has no thoughts of retiring. He still makes the chilli for his pan mee, and keeps the recipe closely guarded!
