Planning the perfect holiday usually requires a fair amount of research. To make all of our lives easier, we’ve curated some of our favourite travel apps that can help us plan, organise, and book everything in advance so that our journey sails as smoothly as possible.
Step 1: Plan & organise
Before you make an impulsive decision to travel to a foreign country, there are things you may need to research in advance – weather, accommodation, location of tourist spots and so on. TripIt is the perfect app for this purpose, providing you with all the details you need to stay efficient and organized prior to and during your travels.
Step 2: Book a flight
Booking a flight is easy anywhere on the web and through travel agencies. But, hunting for the cheapest flight rates to your holiday destination can be quite tricky. This is where apps such as Kayak and TripIt win by a long shot – simple to navigate and compares the cheapest deals for you, making your decision easier.
Step 3: Book a hotel
There are a number of apps that can guide you to book a hotel for your dream holiday, but there are only a few that give you a comparison of prices and guests’ star ratings like Agoda and Kayak. If you can’t decide between a couple of hotels, Agoda will help you sort that out in a jiffy with their ratings.
You can also opt for the very popular TripAdvisor app to help you decide on the ideal accommodation, though you won’t be able to book through the app. Prefer to stay somewhere more homey? Try the Airbnb app to search for rooms, apartments and houses to rent.
Step 4: Rent a car/Transport
If you plan on driving around or hiring a driver you can trust for the duration of your holiday, Kayak enables you to rent a car in advance and Tripit has an entire section where you can book GroundLink transport in advance.
Step 4: Things to do
The best part about a holiday in a foreign country is being able to really explore. Tourist Eye is an app that enables you to find locations near you, through the help of GPS, offering a selection of restaurants, bars, events, tourist spots and much more.
Another great app for finding cool things to do is the Time Out app, which can recommend places to go that are near to you, as well as showing you top reviewed places. The only drawback is that it’s currently limited to cities.
Step 5. One last thing…
Once you have various details of your trip, such as flight and hotel bookings, you can e-mail TripIt with this information and it will create a master itinerary, which you can then share with your fellow travellers and access via the app. No more need for a paper trail!
