What is Mi 3?
Not related in any way to the Mission: Impossible III franchise, Mi 3 is Xiaomi’s latest smartphone model. It was officially launched in Malaysia on 19 May. It claims to be the “fastest Xiaomi phone ever” and retails at only RM889. The phone’s specs make it is a steal compared to other high end models such as the iPhone 5s.
Wait, who or what is Xiaomi again?
Okay, so how are the specs and features?
It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 8274AB 2.3GHz processor, Adreno 330 450MHz GPU, 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM, eMMC 4.5 flash memory, a 13 MP camera with 2 MP secondary camera, 5-inch full HD IPS display and a 3050mAh battery. Not to mention, the phone is contained within a sleek aluminium-magnesium alloy frame.
I didn’t understand all of that but it sounds awesome. I want one! How do I get it?
Available for purchase only through its web store, all 4000 units of the product stocked for the Malaysian market was sold out within 17 minutes after being released to the public!
Fortunately, Xiaomi has recently announced that they will be restocking with 6000 more units on 27 May.
What comes with the launch of Mi 3?
The launch in Malaysia is seen as one of Xiaomi’s first steps in trying to capture the market outside mainland China. They currently have four authorized service centres in the country and are negotiating with Malaysian telco dealers like Maxis, Digi and Celcom to create a larger brand awareness for the company.
There are also plans to launch Mi 3’s successor, the Redmi 1S next month as well as continuing the company’s expansion within the region to countries like Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam.
