Concerned about the 118-storey Menara Warisan development in Merdeka Park? Local heritage groups RakanKL and Pertahankan Taman Merdeka Negara (PTMN) are organising a forum for public discussion on Saturday 24 August at KLSCAH.

The afternoon programme, which runs from 1pm to 3.30pm, will include presentations about local heritage from Teoh Chee Keong (heritage conservationist), Dr. Ong Kian Ming, Haji Ishak Surin and others.

The public will be invited to voice their concerns. The feedback will be submitted as a memorandum to DBKL, Members of Parliament, and other relevant authorities and bodies in Malaysia.

According to RakanKL, “Although residents affected by the Menara Warisan project have officially submitted their objections on 2 July 2013 to PNB’s application to build Menara Warisan, DBKL has yet to disclose all project information to the public.”

“This is an urgent matter as our national heritage and public space which belongs to all of us – including Stadium Merdeka, Stadium Negara, the now-demolished Taman Merdeka (Tunku Park) and the surrounding historical community – is under threat. It is important that everyone come together to voice their opinions and suggestions.”

There will also be a side programme from 11am-5pm, featuring a ‘Landscape Model and History Exhibition on Tunku Park’ curated by heritage conservationist Teoh Chee Keong and his architectural students and video screening about Taman Merdeka’s history.
